Desotorow Gallery, Inc. | Writing on the Walls

The act of writing a list, sending a personal letter and even passing a note have become few and far between in the digital age. An e-mail or a text message, however efficient, no longer hold that personal touch. Handwriting is so specific to an individual that this form of expression within itself seems to have been left behind by contemporary telecommunications. Writing style is dynamic: an unfinished work to be modified, revised, and shaped over a lifetime. Writing on the Walls examines and celebrates the personal idiosyncrasies of the art of handwriting through various mediums: letters, notes, grocery lists, and other organic print pieces that continues to exist despite today's increased use of digital methods. We invite you to join us in our exploration of the ever disappearing art of the written word.

In order to be considered for the exhibit, you must submit the following:

Eligibility: This juried exhibition is open to national and international artists (professional, emerging, and student).

Media/Genre: Open to works of all genres and media.

Delivery & Return of Work: All work accepted for the exhibition must arrive ready to install. Work that is not ready to hang or that does not exhibit good craftsmanship may be omitted from the exhibit. Work that differs significantly from its entry image may be disqualified. Work can be hand delivered or shipped. Hand delivered work must be picked up from the gallery by the date specified (see Deadlines). Desotorow Gallery is not responsible for work left beyond the date specified. Shipped work must be sent in a reusable container with return shipping prepaid. Work should be securely packaged, clearly labeled, and sent with a return shipping label. Work will be returned in the same manner as delivered, or via UPS/USPS. Accepted work will remain on display for the duration of the exhibition.

Entry Fee: You may submit up to three pieces for a non-refundable entry fee of $20. The entry fee may be paid online or with cash, check, or money order (checks and money orders should be made payable to DESOTOROW GALLERY).

Sale of Work: Desotorow Gallery, Inc. will not take commission on the sale of artwork. Payment will be made directly to artists.

Images: Desotorow only accepts digital images for consideration. Images must meet the following specifications:

File Names: Artist’s last name followed by the entry number (i.e. Smith01.jpg, Smith02.jpg)

File Size: Images must be saved in a HIGH QUALITY JPEG format at 72 DPI and no smaller than 1000 pixels in any direction.

Submit images using a CD/DVD and clearly label it with your full name and contact information. CD/DVDs will not be returned.

Marketing: Desotorow Gallery reserves the right to use images of accepted works for promotional purposes. The gallery may request hi-res images of accepted work upon notification.

Liability: Desotorow Gallery will take the utmost care with your work. Insurance will not be provided for any artwork while on Desotorow Gallery, Inc.’s premises. Desotorow Gallery, Inc. bears no responsibility and is not liable for damage to, theft of, or change in the condition of artwork while on the gallery premises or as a result of participation with the gallery. The gallery is not responsible for any damage occurred during shipping.
